How to Start a Retro Streetwear or Tracksuit Brand
A practical, step-by-step path for launching a real product-based brand — not a print-on-demand storefront.
Print-on-Demand vs a Real Manufactured Product — Pick Your Path First
Print-on-demand decorates an existing blank with no inventory or MOQ, but gives no control over construction, fabric, or fit. A manufactured product is built around your fabric, panel construction, and branding. Genuine retro tracksuits need the second path.
Step 1 — Define Your Design Direction
Bring a reference point, a rough idea of who you are designing for, and a sense of differentiation. That is enough to brief a manufacturer under private label.
Step 2 — Understand What It Actually Costs
Cost varies with order size and customisation. Start with a sample and a small run rather than committing to hundreds of units upfront.
Step 3 — Find a Manufacturer, Not Just a Supplier
A supplier sells what already exists; a manufacturer builds your product to spec. For a genuine retro tracksuit, you need a manufacturer.
Step 4 — Sample Before You Commit
A custom sample typically takes 7–10 days and confirms fit, fabric, and construction before bulk production. Skipping this is one of the most common mistakes new brands make.
Step 5 — Launch With What You Can Actually Fulfil
Ten to twenty pieces of a sampled, approved design is a stronger start than pre-selling a design that does not yet exist.
